Hank,
Sounds typical of a bad tripod bearing or inner driver (or two). Sometimes outer CVs that lack grease will contribute to the problem although rumbling while turning is the major hallmark of a grease hungry CV. Be prepared to replace a tripod bearing and maybe an inner driver and clean and repack a CV. Then slide on some new boots and jam it back together. If you replace an inner driver do the axle seal and housing o'ring and don't forget to put thread sealant on the six 8 mm bolts. Also put the shims back right where they came from and only remove one inner driver at a time (if you must do both). Cheers
