Although I'm not a Saab expert, I always have known that in most, if not all cases the engine rotation is CLOCKWISE, therefore you should turn the crankshaft CLOCKWISE! In your case it would be toward the US passenger (since the engine is facing the firewall...)
But as far as I know, turning it the opposite direction (counter clockwise toward the us driver) would not cause any engine damage, perhaps a loose crankshaft pulley nut (I assume you are turning the engine from the crank shaft pulley...), but that would take quite some doing...
Be sure to have your EMERGENCY BRAKE engaged, and your transmission in NEUTRAL
But I would advise you to wait for someone who's Saab expertise are better than mine. Good luck
