'88 8 valve distributor Posted by Saana88 [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
While replacing the cap and rotor and plugs on my '88 last weekend, I decided to run Bentley's suggested tests on the distributor. It leaks pretty badly now, so I suppose I'd better fix it. Plus, with nearly 100k on the existing hall sensor, I'd rather get a fresh one in there since these seem to last my family around 100-120k before no-starting.
Check the centrifugal advance: Well that was easy. I twisted on the rotor and nothing happened. That must be hung up.
Check the vacuum advance: another easy one. pull the vacuum line off the intake manifold and suck on it and... nothing happens. The advance diaphragm is leaking.
"Well, I better replace it then."
Unfortunately, a look around the back of the shop shows we're right out of Norwegian Blues.
TSS lists a different part for the '88 8 valve distributor. Naturally, that part is not exactly available.
Does anyone know a decent source for a rebuilt '88 8 valve distributor?
If it matters, the car's chassis number is 002290, an early one. I wish I could still find these in the junkyard.
