For those that contend the continuum is a myth, and due to poor maintenance, there is truth to that scenario. The problem is that there are just some things you don't attempt to use until something else goes wrong. I had a tire blowout Friday night, I noticed THEN that the 4 way flashers didn't work, that a poorly maintained jack can rust up solid, and an under -inflated donut spare will soon go flat. Saturday , when getting a new set of 4 tires, while the car was on the lift, I noticed that it also had 2 broken rubber muffler straps, and that the rear brakes are due to be changed. On Sunday, not wanting to ignore any regular maintenance, I changed the oil, only to find a small puddle of anti-freeze leaking under the oil pan. It seems the small elbow hose to the cylinder head has sprung a small leak, so that will be replaced in short order too. You can call it a continuum, but the truth is that 17 year old cars of any make require constant attention, as the only big difference between old cars & new is about 20 lbs of rubber products, that usually has a 10 year life expectancy, hoses, belts, tires, bushings, gommets, oil seals
