Minehad to be the junkyard in south Philly (of all places) that really only pulled engines and transmissions, then crushed the cars for scrap. After I told the guy I was doing some work on the petroleum terminal next door (I'm an environmental consusltant), he said I could have the good neighbor's discount. The he told me that if it wasn't the glass, alloy wheels, or the drive train, I could just have the parts for free.
I was only in the area on business on two occasions in the short time the car was spared from the crusher, but spent about 8 hours stripping the car. I took most of the electronics, computers, a near perfect dash, the console, the entire ABS sytem, seat belts, tool kit, spare tire, many other parts, and the crown jewel -- a top of the line Sony 10 CD changer with detavhable face. Too bad it was a 900S and not the turbo, but still lots of goodies. After I got done the second time, I went back to the office and gave the guy $60 bucks (he didn't ask for anything) and told him to buy a round of drinks for the crew.
That was sweet!
