With places like Pep Boys & Harbor Freight, selling cherry pickers for $110 and $149, buying the hoist pays for itself the 1st time you use it. You can probaly rent or borrow a hoist.
Pulling the engine is not that difficult. The only time spent under the car is for disconnecting speedometer drive, loosening shifter coupling, and maybe some exhaust work. If you are junking out the car, makes it a lot quicker, because you don't have to tag & label everything. Hoses wires & belts all get snipped. All this sturr can be done quicker with the help of a compressor, impact gun & air ratchet. Also have to loosen lower ball joints for clearance on inner drivers.
Pulling the engine is actually easier than doing a lot of other repairs, done in the engine compartment.
