It isn't nearly as stout as the engine in your 87 Turbo convertible. It has a balance shaft setup that is prone to failure, a finer mesh oil pickup that will clog up with sludge if you (or the previous owner)don't religiously change oil. It also comes complete with a DI cassette that can fail without notice and leave you on the side of the road. Add to that a serpentine belt and pulley setup that never lasts more than 60k.
SAAB also forgot to tighten the head bolts on many of those engines. At best, you have a coolant leak. At worst, you need a head gasket.
Other than the valve cover, the only major similarity it has to the motor in your 87 convertible is that it will most likely leak oil. Wouldn't be a SAAB if it didn't :)
