This Post is compliments of Hans:
The vacuum/pressure capsules on the distributors fitted to the CE and 90-91 SPGs (and Euro-only LPTs, and as part of the early 90s "red box" kit) have a different spring to control the retard timing curve -- it's more linear, whereas a standard Turbo distributor suddenly dumps all retard in at ~3-5 psi, more like a step than a curve or ramp.
The only difference that I can tell, from having tested and plotted the curves, lies within the capsule.
The capsule on these "hi-po" distributors has a short Bosch number that a Bosch dealer cannot look up (I tried several years ago). I was unsuccessful at deducing the other digits in the part number when I searched the web at the time.
The Saab number for the distributor is 8857617 (Bosch 0 237 507 010), and was used on 90-91 SPGs, light-pressure cars in Europe, and the CE cars, i.e., 185hp.
