Not sure about the whaletail but I've removed a few spoilers from the trunks of convertibles. I imagine they are attached the same way. There is double-faced trim tape holding it on. If there is an integral third brake light there is also urethane adheesive in the area where the wire passes through the trunk lid. Get some 20lb. test fishing line and pull it through the tape. Hold it in your hands like you are going to choke someone with piano wire. (Sorry, best analogy I could think of). Using putty knifes or other prying implements could damaged the finish.
