scott47,
What happens on these early 900s is that the shaft of the little lever (on the front caliper) which applies the e'brake binds up and won't rotate easily so when you release the e'brake it stays applied. There's a spring involved but the shaft eventually will bind beyond the spring's ability to rotate it and release the e'brake. If you just turn the front wheel out you'll easily see the lever, with the cable attached to it, and you can pull it back with a pair of pliers, releasing the e'brake (put er in gear first or she may roll on you). Sounds like just one of yours is sticking and that's pretty typical. It could (otherwise) be the cable binding up but that's less common and you'll know if the cable is bound-up when you try to pull the lever back. The fix is to get the lever rotating freely again and sometimes that's as simple as replacing the aluminum sealing ring in the shaft bore and smearing the shaft with a little high temp. grease. Other times the shaft is corroded too badly to affect a good repair. They are still available from Saab for about $50 each (there's a right and left). My brother used to fix those without even removing the caliper but I haven't mastered that trick yet so I end up pulling the caliper off. If you drove with the e'brake applied you may have overheated the rotor, caliper and pads and you'll need to replace all of that stuff. You can get a kit and rebuild the caliper or just buy a rebuilt one but they don't generally come with the e'brake lever so watch out for that. Also, to move the piston back into it's bore you have to rotate it with a special tool so be prepared for that. In '88 they changed the calipers and made life a little easier (don't get any ideas, retro-fitting them is a major job).
