The factory ground cable that goes from the alt. to the block was beefed up in the late 80's or early 90's. The early ones especially will break wire strands when the alternator bushings get loose. The cable may look OK but be on it's last few intact strands. It is simple insurance to add a second cable. A local Saab mechanic will not let any 900 alternator work out of his shop without a 2nd cable.
