Perhaps I'm mistaken, but you're suggesting that the fuel enrichment is set too lean, but I (my car, that is) seem to be having the opposite problem where the engine is choking from too much fuel. In order to start those few cold mornings without sitting there for two minutes letting it rev high, misfire and puke out noxious fumes, if I simply turned back the enrichment screw to a lean setting, then it would idle fine on it's own. But then as it warmed up, I'd have to turn it back to it's normal setting or else the engine would die from too little fuel.
