AC Compressor Rebuild (long)

Has anybody attempted to rebuild their AC compressor using the rebuild kit offered by the saab site? Two years ago I completely went through my 1990 SPG's ac system with a rebuilt compressor, new hoses, new rec/dryer and 134A refrigerant. I installed everything and then took it to my local indy to have them pull a vacuum and fill the system.
They filled the system, but couldn't get the compressor to kick in, so they just kept filling it thinking that they hadn't hit the pressure req'd to overcome the low pressure switch. I don't know what pressure they ultimately hit, but I think it was pretty high, and I noticed a leak from the compressor (shaft?) right when I got home. Turns out the fuse was blown. They never checked it and aren't my mechanics any more. The AC actually worked really well untill it lost too much refrigerant, after I replaced the fuse.
Long story short, all I really need to do (I think) is replace the shaft seal and refill my system. I'll have it out to do the crank pulley pretty soon anyway. Any success with this? I also have a few extra compressors laying around, does anybody know of a good way to test a used compressor?
Thanks again!
Thanks!
