84' 900 EMS??? Typo or Truth???

I was going through some stuff in my glovebox, and I discovered the original window sticker and the customs papers from when the car was purcahsed in 1984. Both papers state that the car is an EMS, not an S like I have always thought it was. I always figured that some idiot at customs just made a typo, then the dealer just copied it. But one day when I pulled my passenger door panel off to fix a window seal, I noticed a small sticker on the door. It had a bunch of serial numbers, the paint code, and the body code. Even the body code states: EMS 3DR. Now I'm confused. I thought EMS 900s were 79' and 80' only. Besides, the hatch would say EMS on it. But the hatch on the car looks like it has been replaced, though the same color, it doesn't quite match. The bumper mounts are screwed up too, since I have to pry the bumper down to get the left tail light out. Do I have a car that shouldn't exist, or was there a big typo from the factory?
