Have 85 Saab 900 8V
1. Losing heat after extreme warm up indicates water thermosat has gone into second closure stage...valving down on cabin heater coil flow to push more through radiator due to high heat.
2. You indicate fans are working properly..most likely about 3/4 gauge..is ok.
3. During final engine fill you would have done the following to make sure no air remains in the system...
a. Turned on the heat control fully to purge out air during warm up
b. Run engine..Allowed engine to warm and top off anti-freeze during warmup
c. Keep engine running..Bleed off trapped air pocket to radiator at bleed screw on top of thermosat housing while running warm engine to prevent vapor lock which will stop water flow to radiator. Keep bleeding air out until you have nice water stream coming out. All of the trapped air will end up here in gulps at different times as water is circulated. Thermosat does not work correctly if it is in air pocket.
d. That being said and if you are sure that thermosat is working (replace if questioned)..then garbage may have ended up in inlet of radiator during "flush" and is partially blocking flow. May have to reverse flush radiator alone...or replace...
