A typical failed AMM will give you major hesitation in accelerating from a stop - basically, the engine seems to ignore your gas pedal inputs.
The base boost and rattle implies either major knocking/detonation or low oil pressure. Let's hope it is knock.
How do the spark plugs look? From your description, I'd guess they are white, indicating lean running. Step 1 is to check your timing - make sure the timing is spot on. Make sure the plugs are in good shape. If you are indeed running lean, it could be the AMM, but it could also be low fuel pressure or flow - a clogged fuel filter, and/or a bad FPR.

It's for the 9000, but I think your 900 uses the old -005 (adjustable) AMM.
