The wheel bearing is a sealed set of ball bearings that are not able to be repacked or greased. They basically hold the entire weight of the car and allow the wheels to spin. If you pull the center cap to get to the lug bolts for the wheels you will see a large (32mm) nut in the center of the wheel assembly and the bearing is behind this nut. It sits in a round hole in the steering knuckle. The knuckle is the part that pivots on the upper and lower ball joints when you turn the steering and the end of the steering rack is also connected to the knuckle. Where the outer end (cvjoint) of the drive axle passes through the steering knuckle is the round hole where the bearing is and it is held together by the 32mm nut and held in the knuckle between 2 large steel rings. There is enough room for the bearing to move between these retainer rings and if it moves suddenly it pops. If it slips easily you will never hear it. As long as the 32mm nut is tight the bearing will hold together at it's center (inner races) and the outer race can slind between the retainer rings without any harm to anything. It's just a nuisance noise and the bearings have to be ruined and replaced to fix it. Even then it will come back eventually.
