Ye Olde Dash Kits Discussion Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I have always maintained that "dash kits" are a pretty ridiculous way to spend money. I mean, seriously, who needs faux materials in their car?
Uh. Me.
I have a 1992 900Tc and the interior is pretty worn, even for a 15 year old drop top - but the dash still looks really good in all its fake wood trim.
My 1990 SPG - which has been literally babied its entire life - has the standard peeling vinyl syndrome, something I've been powerless to stop. Finding good replacement fascias is becoming virtually impossible, but I find myself tempted to apply one of the "dash kits" to hopefully solve the problem and keep it looking good. I'm specifically looks at something carbon-fiber-esque, because wood really doesn't appeal to me - especially not for the SPG.
Does anyone have any experience specifically with these carbon fiber dash kits? I've looked at stateofnine's web page, but they have a HUGE price premium over the stuff on ebay... At $315, their price is triple the nearest ebay competitor, and 10x the cheapest! I can't deal with those numbers for a trim product. As a note, I realize part of their high price is because they have a multi-piece solution - I'm really just looking for the fascia itself, *possibly* the glovebox, but that's it.
Anyone taken the plunge, or am I the test case? it seems like all the ebay vendors are selling parts of the same manufacturer's kit, but any first-hand experience is helpful...
Thanks!
