You didn't mention if the old plug was rounded?
Part of the problem I had with my Saab was being able to get under the car to get enough torque to loosen the plug.
If it's not rounded, try using a breaker bar or other torque extender for added muscle. If it is rounded, you may still be able to grip it with a 12 in or larger pipe wrench and then use the torque extender bar.
Too bad the some people torque these things to a quazillion foot pounds.
