There are lot of parts out there for the 8v, thesaabsite.com has a pretty good listing and there are alot of other places out there. You most likely will not need to have the block bored, and you might have no issues with the pistions either. The crank is not likely not to need overside bearings either. I have rebuilt 2 8v motors. Both I used the same pistons and standard rings. The 76 ems I put overside bearings in due to a bearing failure which was really the only reason I rebuilt the motor. My dad recently rebuilt a 88 16v trubo and used standard rings and bearings and used the same pistons. Bushings are avaliable also as they are the same for all c900 and most 99.
If the body and interior are decent it is worth rebuilding the enigne.
