gee... not having issues like that on mine. perhaps it's an enviroment thing? most of the motors I've fixed have a brushes issue, just like an alternator, brushes worn out. If you are having a leak then fix that first. don't worry about the bleeding of air and all that, just cycle the unit several times and it all come out.
there are a couple of screws with nut heads on the motor end of the pump. Then may be 1/4' rather than metric, forget as I always have a box of tools. Anyway, unscrew those and pull them out, the go all the way into the sides of the resevior. Once those are out you can just pull the metal motor end off! There is a keyed shaft at the end that goes into the resevior so no leaks and not draining needed!
Pull the end off of the unit, it's where the brushes are. then pull the armature out. BUT FIRST, take a sharpie and mark the metal can so you remember up is up and down is down... lol
hopefully the motor is not rusted. That's the only other issue I've seen. If it is score another in the junk yard or email me, I have several for sale if you are really stuck...
Take the armature and bushes unit to a machine shop that rebuilds alternators. If it is a good one you should be able to get it cleaned up, new brushes and take it home for well under $100, like $50 or so. If the shop is having issues finding brushes that are the right size (they find lenght ok, has the braided wire, but the Width is too big in one direction? Do this, get two sets, they should be cheap. Go home and put a brush into a vise grip pliers, not too tight, and align such that the dimension you want is just hidden in the pliers, meaning the stuff sticking out is what you don't want. take a dremel moto tool with a sanding drum and take it down to the plier jaw. This will be dusty and messy, do it outside and face down wind if possible! Then turn the brush 90 degrees and do the other dimension is necessary) put it back together, note the notches on the end of the can that align with the bolt holes, the magnet will piss you off getting the long screws back in but you can do it, put the metal can all together and then push down on the resevior and thend fight the magnets with putting the screws back in.
Congratulate youself on saving a bundle of cash...
Tips, if your year has the hard wired red and black wires into the motor (meaning no quick disconnects) you can just cut the wires leaving room in both directions. I just just wire nuts to put mine back together while waiting to find heavy duty crimp on quick disconnects... that was two years ago. I figure if they workd for outside lighting fixtures.... right?
