Engine / tranny removal; any good procedure out there?

I need to pull the tranny in my '88 SPG. It just grinds when I try to put it in reverse (and now and again, it pops out of 4th gear when idling, not under acceleration). A assume I need to put another trans in, and am looking for a nice procedure for the job. I'm a 9000 guy, so the 900's are new to me. Thank you for the advice.
