My '88 is getting rusty too, after 20 years of the New York salt shaker, anything will rot out. The car is still solid though (A-arms etc.) so she's mine until the rust does her in. I never thought about the bumper attachment points, but if the car gets hit hard enough to need them, it's going away anyway.
If you try to sell the car now, with rust visible, you aren't going to get anything, so you may as well be sure it's reliable and get what you can out of it. Also keep in mind like I did three years ago when the doors started getting ugly that doors are replaceable.
By this time, you've probably gotten a flavor of what has to be done to the car regularly, and you're just starting to get into once-in-the-life-of-the-car replacements. It's also a good car to learn on if you want to start doing some of the basic stuff yourself. Keep your fluids fresh and you'll hit 200k and wonder if that's it. My next stop should be 250k hopefully sometime in 2008. Really, don't pay attention to the odometer until you feel like bragging about it.
If not, find someone with an 18-year-old so they can learn how to use a clutch, then either blow up the gearbox, spin out, or rear-end someone, knowing they'll be safe.
