Hey there, I've got a 90 SPG and have been through the ABS ringer too... very very frustrating when this happens as I found I lose confidence in a car I otherwise push to the limit frequently. I too replaced my accumulator end of last year... fixed the problems I was having with the lights coming on in stop/go traffic and during heat waves here in Tennessee. Now I get maybe 5-7 seconds of Antilock/Brake Fluid lights in the AM, then they go out and all is fine. I get about 15 pumps of the pedal now when idling to see red/yellow lights.
I have also had to replace my "pump relay" (the black one in the relay box on the passenger side of the hood) twice now. Basically the lights would come on when driving, then I'd lose ALL assist and get the same symptoms you describe... ie no brake assist.
A quick test. Turn the key on (with engine off) -- can you hear ABS pump? If it keeps running and won't stop, it could be the pump relay. Less common might be pressure switch, which was what I feared; however wasn't the case for me.. When my relay failed the 2nd go round, I only got one warning light (not both, I thought it was odd based on research here on the board). Then a few minutes later I lost all brake assist. Note: Make sure you do not keep the car on with that pump running full time, you'll burn the pump out and then its $$$$$.
So -- check the black relay. The metal system relay in that same relay housing fails too, but it's cheap and isn't as likely a culprit.
But, the one light on could also very easily point to a bad sensor at any of the wheels or a bad wire from the sensor to the ECU.
Gut here says it's not the ECU -- but couldn't hurt to swap it out just to see.
PS - I now keep an extra brand new $82 pump relay in my glove box at all times just in case it craps out again.
Hope it helps,
Ben
