Did a couple things on the 90 SPG this weekend, highlights include:
First off my power steering reservoir was one of the old see through reservoirs and seeped a slight bit from somewhere (I kept tightening hose clamps, i'm guessing a micro crack somewheres in the plastic, probably made worse by my tightening over the past 6 months). Anyway. replaced the 2 hose clamps and flushed out all the old fluid. Took me 6 quarts of PS fluid to do so. I used Pyroil p/s fluid which from all the research here seemed great (I wanted to use expensive stuff but everyone said just use the cheap stuff). I was getting a slight bit of cold weather stiffness this past winter, nothing bad... but still. The fluid was BLACK AND NASTY coming out. I took off the little (return hose) from the reservoir, stuck it in some clear plastic tubing that ran to a milk jug. Well, even if it doesn't have any net effect I feel better now with clean fluid in the car.
Then I flushed & bled all brake fluid. Same thing.. black and nasty... clear by the end. Bled the clutch slave too. Clutch feels exactly the same as before... so I'm guessing there wasn't any air or moisture in there. Again, unsure of net effect but now when my ABS pump dies sometime down the road at least I can't wonder if I could have prevented it by flushing fluid.
Then swapped out the pass side seatbelt latch, which had stopped latching. Or really, sometimes latching but then coming unlatched by itself (a series safety issue in a wreck I think) Unfortunately I couldnt find one at a junkyard (seems ALL the 90's have this problem and they are different than the -89s and the 91+s have mounts on the 9000 style seats. So $125 from Saabsite and I'm back in business. New red button looks nice too. I think I'm gonna spring for the drivers side new latch too while I still can get them from Saab.
