so i'm looking at an '87 900 and I look under the hood and its grimy by the power steering pump- which may be empty or leaky- some oil in spots here and there, and a pesky ignition problem. apparently the lady selling it has trouble starting it because the button at the bottom of the distributor cap is gone (connects from the center post to the rotor). so i toss my spare in, and even rig another coil on to try it out. no go. and i'm looking up the posts here and there and they advise to let it sit and reset the ecu, which i'll humor and do.

i brought my compression tester, but that's no good until its running of course. i've never dealt with ecu, or efi problems, assuming thats it of course. the rest of it looks ok for its age, and its got the usual chicago rust. its tempting, but how tempting? (i used to poke around in my boss' old 900 a few years ago and got bit by the sweedish bug. my other car is a '66 beetle and a '68 m-b 220 so i've had a primer in all things metric- but this is a different animal and i don't want to get in over my head) Please advise,
