Have you tried putting the car into fifth while it's all warmed up, parked and idling. In my opinion, if this is related to oil (and it probably isn't) then the best change to make is to a synchro-mesh transmission specific oil such as Redline MTL. Not thicker, high pressure gear oil, which is hell on synchro units. Really, the first thing to look at is the spring loaded pin on the bottom of the shift lever that can become stuck or maladjusted and make finding fifth gear difficult (at times). Then inspect the rubber coupling which connects the shift lever to the transmission shift rod. When the pinion bearings go on these units sometimes the first thing the driver notices is trouble with fifth gear, but that's not temperature specific. If the power unit is flapping around due to bad engine mounts shifting can become difficult. I can appreciate the logic that as your lubricants warm up the problem develops but when the spring loaded pin at the bottom of the shift lever begins sticking it's random action can fool you that way.
To harp on...the spring pin is there to prevent shifting into reverse without lifting the ring below the shift knob. When the ring is lifted the pin rises and the lever can be moved farther to the right, into the reverse gate. If the pin gets stuck or becomes maladjusted (as they often do) then when you go for fifth the lever moves to the right, beyond the fifth gate, towards the reverse gate. At that point you could shift into reverse by pulling back on the lever (yikes) but you can't go into fifth by pushing forward because the reverse and fifth gates are staggered. Next time this happens just keep the clutch depressed and stop the lever a little short of it's full movement to the right, closer to third, then see if it will go forward into fifth. If you do this at lower speed it won't hurt if you accidentally drop into third gear. Good luck.
