When I looked at my current '90 SPG, I budgeted $1,000 for that repair, based on used parts, an experienced C900 owner who runs the local radiator shop who would do the work. It cost under $200 for a blow-off valve, some R12, and full-rate labor. I was LUCKY - still works great after 4 years.
For a 20 year old 900, '86-'88, I would budget $1,000 - $1,500. Again, that would expect you to do the junk yard shopping, a mechanics willingness to use a "pre-owned" part, and their ability to diagnose. If you can DIY, could a good system (yes - they can be found) off a newer '89-'93 C900 be retrofitted easily? Possibility? Probability?
Yes - a lot of it depends on what's wrong. Hope this helps!
