The only trouble I can see is there might not be enough material around the bottom edge pull while you staple the top to the rear tack strip...unless you can sew a small strip of material to allow you to grab while stapling. This is commonly done in upholstery work to save expensive material which would be trimmed off anyway. You might want to leave the hydraulic system in place and just swap the top and frame mechanism. If all this work fails, you can get a new top for under $300, but you will need to fit and install it yourself.
