300 total built (250 Auto, 50 manual) Posted by LIFETIMEOFSAABS [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: 1986 Saab Convertible - 1 for every dealer, gcb, Mon, 7 Mar 2005 09:41:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The 86 convertible was only supplied to the US market - meaning that the 300 cars built for the 1986 model year were all that were produced.
There were four prototypes: Two were painted pearl color. One of the prototypes was made from the 3-dr by Saab factory designers. The other, was designed and built by ASC - and based on the 2-door coupe.
Two "production prototypes" were built. One in a solid white color and the other in red. The red car is owned by GM and is in the GM heritage collection. The two pearl-colored cars are in the Saab Museum in Sweden.
The white car...well who knows where that one is?!
Of the 300 produciton run convertibles 250 were automatics and 50 were manuals. I know of several 86s that has auto-to-manual conversions done on them.
These cars are out there - and I know where one is for sale right now in the southeast US.
