well pull the center cap of the rim and look at the axle nut Posted by vvack0matic [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Wheel Leaning (sorry about that), joe w., Thu, 12 Apr 2007 14:44:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
it should tell the hole story. if you see something in the form of a round metal cylinder is protruding out from the wheel and looks to be rapping the axle nuts threads i`d say it was the wheel bearing,
but then it could just be your otter c.v. has been eaten away so much all thats left is the remnant of melted plastic.
the last cluck you heard was probably the last ball if the c.v. finding its way out, (look to see if the boots cut.
if its not their probably all in there just having a party on whats left of the guts of the c.v and your axle.
the smell would be most likely the balls grinding whatever they came in contact with, which would cause friction, heat them up to the point of frying the c.v. grease, were talking about balls that are as hot as the sun,
and with no c.v. left to support anything i suppose the axle shifted.
the reason it was hard to stop would be seeing how the balls were hot as the sun heated up the axle which in-turned heated up the center of the rim then on to the rotor, and when the brakes where applied every thing felt like butter, because of the excessive amount of heat.
