Dash rheostat R&R, & aftermarket part source

89T. I'm unable to remove the dash rheostat (lower one, not the one in the cluster). The pry bars I'm using will break the dash before the knob will come free. Any tips on loosening the knob from the rheostat shaft?
Also, new rheostats are $45-50. The usual parts sources don't seem to have an aftermarket alternative -- anyone know of a source or alternative from another make? (I will not be installing from a junker.)
Thx...
