4dr/trunk models suffer from bad ground connections (check the FAQ section) - All models tend to get crud on the bulbs & in the sockets...bulb failure is rare unless the car has upwards of 150k & even then it's usually just dirty contacts.
Most garages will install new & often inferior quality bulbs - which don't last...when simply cleaning the bulb(s) & socket contacts is all that's needed.
Try smacking the lens cover of the offending lamp with the palm of your hand...80% of the time it will come on, indicating a bit of cleaning is required. Watch out for the rubber seals on 3dr/hatch tail lights...they can be tricky & let in (more) crud if improperly positioned.
Another malady with 3dr/hatch outer tail light lenses is water collecting in the enclosed reflector. All you have to do to correct this is drill two small holes at the bottom corners, which will allow any water to pass right through & out the drain at the bottom of the main lens. I've done this on several c900 3drs w/perfect results.
If purchasing new bulbs, you will find that the bulb part #'s in most (if not all) c900 owners manuals have been superceded. Stick with Osram/Sylvania whenever possible & note the cp rating if in doubt.
