OK... so to recap. Drivers side belt is stuck somewhere in the middle, passengers is working normally, right? Is the SRS light on (it should be)
First and foremost, you can still drive the car -- in your trunk toolkit there should be a little clip (2 actually)... one of them fits in the "locked" position of the track and you can clip the belt to that. Owners manual has details FYI.
As far as fixing it. Couple questions:
1) When you open / close door do you hear the motor trying to work?
2) Before it died on you, was it moving really slowly or otherwise acting up at all?
3) With car ignition on and drivers door closed, if you "help" the belt mouse go to its "locked" position, will it move at all?
There are "limit" switches on the door tracks... sometimes these go bad and the thing doesn't know what to do. But as far as fixing them its probably the kind of thing where you replace the whole track.
Keep us posted.
