The insurance company is giving you the run-around. Not sure how things work in your part of the woods, but here in Minnesota the insurance company must give you fair market value for the repair OR fair market value for the replacement of the car. Since they have chosen to say the car cannot be repaired, they must give you the fair market value of your car so if you are so inclined, you can get a duplicate of it.

They can use many sources to ascertain the fair market value...NADA and Kelly Blue Book are two ways, but those are nothing more than guides. What they should be doing is searching for cars in your market, in like condition and model as yours, which have recently sold to set the fair market value.

You're in a tough spot since they were only 325 CE Saab 900 built. I doubt they will find any close and recent that fit that your particular car. What you can do is find (using the Saabce site) the cars around the US that have sold or been appraised recently. Armed with that information, demand, do not ask, for the insurance company to conduct a fair market value search for your specific style of car. You may certainly give them the info you've already compiled. Don't be shy about letting them know you have one of only 325 of these cars ever built.

They will attempt (which they are already doing) to force you to take a lower amount that actual value. Stand firm and get your insurance company involved as much as possible.

I ran into the same situation earlier this year with a common '90 Saab 900 turbo sedan. The other party accepted full responsibility so they were paying for the damage. They decided to total the car. NADA and KBB valued the car around $2k, but I told them to do a market research appraisal, and to my shock and surprise, they came back at $3,500.00. I kept the car, got it repaired for $1,200.00, and pocketed the remaining.
