I've never lubed a saab rack and pinion. They should last indefinitely or until a seal fails or an inner tie rod end dies. I don't even know if saab racks have an inner tie rod end (volvos do and they're permanently greased...have to disassemble to grease/replace them) and I would probably just replace the entire rack on the volvo rather than do the inner tie rod end although I understand volvo has a procedure for it.
If the rack fails buy and install a rebuilt one with a lifetime warranty. Last one I put in on my 87 900T was at six years in 1993 and maybe 150K miles....no probs now at 288 and 14 years..the rebuilt has lasted far longer than the OEM rack.
