I've gotten by w/a bottle of Bars Leaks (the nasty brown stuff) for four years, after paying $500 for the car...The prev. owner had sunk $5000 in a 5spd conversion, PS rack, Alt., batt., tires & exh. the year before! The HG was the final straw - his loss was my gain! I can repl. the head gasket myself & save the $1200 (?) a shop would charge, but I want to send the head to Sweedish Dynamics for a fluff n' fold while it's off & haven't had the spare $$$ to do it. I'm getting ready to flush it out, repl. the (orig.) hoses & refill w/fresh glycol & more Bars Leaks :( Where do people get the money to pay for perf. mods!?!! Or non DIY repairs!? I need a new job.

Charlie should start w/a good engine cleaning, followed by some easy cruising w/the expansion tank cap loose to dry things off without any pressure in the cooling system - then once everything is bone dry, tighten down the cap & look for leaks. At least that's what I'd do...beats $90+ an hr shop labor!
