Power Window Spring Has Been "Sprung."

I'm in the process of replacing one power window motor and
cleaning/lubricating all the window assemblies.

I noticed there is a large spring (like on a grandfather clock).
I figured it's supposed to help support the weight of the window
when it's "up."

Trouble is the metal clip (with a slot in its center) that holds the inside end of the spring spins freely when the arm it's attached
to goes up and down.

I figure it's supposed to be "fixed" to the arm so the spring tightens
when the arm moves pushing the window up.

Any ideas on how to tighten the connection between the metal clip
and the arm. I tried using a peen ball hammer, but am afraid to
hit the clip too hard fearing I could "freeze" the arm or
increase resistance when it moves (not good for the motor for sure).
