I've done it on 2 of my saabs as preventative maintenance. There are lots of causes of idle fluctuation, and the AIC is a good and simple place to start.

First remove the AIC valve by loosening and pulling off the clamp that surrounds it, the 2 rubber hoses, and unplugging the electrical connector.

I preferred using using choke/carb cleaner rather than brake cleaner... Take the carb cleaner with the little straw attached and spray it into both ends of the AIC. I was fairly liberal with generous amounts letting it drip out the other opening as I sparayed. Shake the valve a bit to swish it aroun in there. I also took a very soft tooth brush and carefully inserted it into the larger opening to help the carb cleaner get at any stubborn grime. After several healthy final sprays of the carb cleaner it began to drip out a bit cleaner letting me know there wasn't much dirt still inside.

Then, once I was completely done with the carb cleaner, I wanted a "rinse" cycle as well as a lube to keep it moving freely inside down the road. So I took some generous amounts of WD40 and sprayed it in there and shook it around a bit till it was dripping out both openings.

When done with the WD40 I shook it out pretty well to drain as much liquid as possible, and let it sit for an hour or so before putting it back into place.

Note, when I had the tooth brush handy I also used it to srub the openings where the rubber hoses attach as they had a lot of black grime in and around them.

Again, it may not fix the issue as there are many more frequent causes of idle problems on these cars, but is quick and easy to do as a place to start.
