The '86 transmission may also need a shifter with the centering mechanism in it, which your '89 does not have.
I don't think 150k is too much to ask out of a 900 five-speed. Many people on this board are well clear of 200k on an original transmission with a few changes of gearbox oil along the way. The box in my '88 (from a donor car from a donor car after the slushamatic died in mine) has what I'll estimate as around 280k on it.
If you are going to do a lot of hard driving, you may want to find a 1989-1990 gearbox since the pinion bearings (the weak link) were substantially overbuilt in those years. This also holds true for 1991-1993, but during those years, the shift forks were redesigned, weaker.
Anyway, check your '86 for inner driver size, internal or external centering, and which type of front motor mount it uses. If your turbo uses a hydraulic mount and the gearbox you want to put in has a solid mount, either change the mount or change the primary chain cover on the gearbox.
