I won't burden anyone with the long back-story. Let it suffice to say that I'm considering lending my '93 900S to my mom who's in a jam and needs a loaner for 6 months or a year until finances improve. As it happens I have one to spare, but am not close enough to oversee maintenance and repairs. (I have intended for this one to be my 'next' 900-- my daily driver is an '88 900S with 371,500 mi and still going strong; I *really* want to make it to 400k).

In the interest of full disclosure, here are the known issues:

(1) Signs of impending head-gasket failure: Motor oil in coolant reservoir, coolant consumption without drip-out onto driveway. Symptoms have persisted since I acquired the car about 5,000 miles ago with no apparent worsening of condition, so I'm treating this as a chronic illness problem for now.

(2) Slow leak of ATF from auto-box. At 206k mi I'm as surprised as anyone that the damn thing still works (AFAIK it's orig) and I've done three (partial) changes of fluid so far.

I'm looking for someone in the Des Moines/Altoona area that knows Saabs and to whom I could have my mom take the car to for inspection, maintenance, and repairs as nec., please let me know if you know someone. I'd pay cash money (or equivalent in Wisconsin beer) for the peace of mind...
