The owner told me it provides boost, however, it has some blow by on the seal and smokes a little. It is a one owner vehicle - a 1993 Turbo Commemorative edition. I have a 1992 turbo 3-door. The only reason I am considering doing this is to use parts from mine. I really think I can have a nice car once I take parts from mine and swap them on to the 1993. Most of the issues are minor cosmetic and my 1992 has an excellent body/interior. My 1992 with 237K needs a transmission and isn't driveable due to this. The only mechanical item the 1993 with 170K needs is a rebuilt turbo (per the owner). The problem - it is 400 miles from a friends house and 1000 from mine. I would probably store mine for parts or sell some parts.

I know I can do the research (and I will continue to do more today), but:

1) If the turbo is actually the issue, how difficult is that job and what is the cost?

2) I know the minor details the 1993 Turbo Commemorative edition has in comparison to my 1992 turbo (e.g. badge, wood grain instrument panel, etc. Are there any mechanical or cosmetic (that I am missing) differences which would make it worth doing?

I have been trying to address the transmission on my 1992 which may be "easier" once I have time and money. I don't know when I will be able to swing the cost. This 1993 is 40% of the cost of the transmission job total cost and overall would be a "better" SAAB once I took parts from mine.
