Last year I was having some issues hauling hundreds of pounds of cargo and running 16" aero wheels on a lowered suspension. (88 900t)
I put the SPG wheels on back to regain the cargo capacity. Doesn't make sense to have a narrower tire for more cargo, but it's what best fits the wheel wells under load.
I drove around with 16" aero (205 width tires) wheels on front and 15" spg wheels on back (195 width tires) for most of the summer. No problems. Excellent handling as usual, perhaps more to my liking as a little less traction in back countered the designed understeer tendencies and made it more fun to drive. Yeh it looked funny though.
Whether it's acceptable for inspection depends on your state's rules. I suspect many states have their inspection rules as law and it should be viewable in the legislative information portion of your state's website.
