I agree -- the cable/pulley is fubar'd. And, yes, it's quicker/easier to just replace it from a junkyard-sourced part...
Vicht: open your hood and take a look at the firewall, beneath the windshield. Pull the pass. wiper from the glass and turn on the wipers. I believe that you can see the wiper transmission working. A cable and pulley system on the driver's side allows that wiper to swing at a larger arc than the pass. side -- the cable has either come off or snapped. Repairing it is possible but difficult and a lot of people have had to re-repair it later on. Get a Bentley repair manual for 16V Saabs and read here:

Just the cable is a $25 part. A junkyard should sell you the whole transmission for less than that.
