Just wanted to pass on an easy alteration to my 90 900T that has vastly improved the ergonomics of the car.
Maybe I'm the only one, but I've always been annoyed at having to reach in front of the shifter to operate the power sunroof. This is especially annoying when I'm trying to "open everything" (i.e. the roof and the windows all at once).
Those of you with 3-doors may have noticed the three switch fillers in the window switch assembly (this was designed this way to allow for standard parts between 3-door, 4-door, and convertible models). It is pretty easy to relocate the sunroof switch to the center position on the switch assembly.
1. Pop out the switch assembly and disconnect the window switches. Do the same with the sunroof switch.
2. Remove the center console and all of the center plastic pieces that cover the ignition and the parking brake cables. I'm assuming that all of you here know how to do this. If not, check a Haynes or Bentley repair manual.
3. GENTLY, using a flathead screwdriver, remove the shroud from the sunroof switch (there are 4 tabs on the corners that hold it in). I must stress the gently part because if you disregard my warning you are going to find yourself buying a new switch.
4. Using the butt of a screwdriver handle or similar object (I actually used the knuckle of my middle finger), strike the center switch filler to pop it out.
5. Put the switch filler piece in the sunroof shroud and place this in the original sunroof switch spot.
6. Pop the shroudless sunroof switch into the center position on the window swich assembly (without the shroud, it fits there!).
7. Reposition the sunroof switch plug and its cord so that the plug sits just behind the window switch plugs.
8. Ensure that the window switch plugs and the sunroof switch plug are aligned with the hole for the window switch assembly. Getting the sunroof switch plug to sit in the right place is a little bit frustrating because the cord isn't really intended to reach there. Ensure that the cord doesn't interfere with the parking brake mechanism or anything else. Trust me, it fits!
9. Replace the center console and center plastic pieces. Plug everything in and pop the window switch assembly back in.
10. Enjoy. Your sunroof switch is now conveniently located directly behind your window switches!
Note: This may work for 4-door models if you don't need to use the rear window lock switch (if you don't tend to transport inquisitive youngsters, for instance). You could just switch the lock to "on" and hide it under the plastic trim pieces, while using its hole for the sunroof switch as described above. I haven't tried this, however. You may run into some problems getting everything to fit under there. If you try this on a 4-door and succeed, please do post about it.
Hope you find this useful.
