Replacing CV joint - ABS ring

Repalcing my CV on a 90 SPG- new Lobro CV said I can simply remove the ABS ring from the old CV( I did that) and place it on the new CV. Problem is that the ring needed to be tapped of the old CV and it simply fits snugly on the new CV but by hand. It isn't secure enough but fits without and slop. How does anyone suggest I afix/secure the ABS ring to the new CV joint?
Thanks
DAve
