I installed some new speakers in my '94 Vert this weekend--big difference. I had been considering the upgrade for a while. I didn't want to change the Clarion system I have in the car. I want it to look stock. But the OEM speakers were starting to sound old. Especially the dash speakers, crackly on higher volumes.
Crutchfield had the speakers I was looking for on clearance, they were superceded by a new model--$120 shipped (definite benefit). I had them in two days. I put Polk DB 400s in the front and Polk DB 650s in the rear. They hold a little more power than the OEM units so volume is up without distortion. Base response is up too, which is a benefit in a convertible.
The dash speakers are drop in units. They fit in the OEM mounts with only a 1/8 spacer on two of the alignment pins (I used rubber faucet washers). Even the OEM wire connections work. The rears require a mounting adapter, which Crutchfield supplied at no charge.
