Hi Justin,
I think you are correct track on the break in, lower rpms, no full throttle, keep the load light, and the only other one I heard (and adhere to.. may be an old mechanics wifes tale...) is to vary the throttle during the break in period, ie don't get on the freeway and do 55 mph for 200 miles.
I've always done the above and been pretty happy with the results, maybe I was just lucky - don't know.
on the fuel tank side, don't think you would find anything to hurt the rings, but the fuel may need the stabilizer additive. When I've run into similar situations I usually drain fuel as possible and put it in a 1/2 tank of premium (just to be safe) in a *current* running car. Never had any issues doing that. then add premium into the subject car to dilute the mix.
