I have the factory clutch tool ($17 at the dealer five years ago) but I prefer the 3/16" threaded rod. The rod is easy to form and gives a bit more clearance than the factory tool. It's easier to use and works better IMHO. Both the factory tool and the rod get mangled over time, but the rod is cheaper to replace. :)
I too have no idea why the Bentley recommends spark plug wires. I've never seen a spark plug wire <3/16" thick... I've always wondered where they came up with that nonsense. Maybe they're talking about a wire with the insulation stripped away?
On a side note, I also have the little a-arm support tools from the dealer ($40ea IIRC), but I found 1" square tube aluminum works better and is easier to manage. It crushes over time, but when one gets too destroyed I just cut another 2" section of my 3' length. At this rate, it'll last for a while.
