I was once told by a locksmith that graphite lubricant is the last thing you want to put in a lock cylinder. Dunno if it's true or not, but I stopped.
Your problem could be a gooey, worn, or broken lock cylinder. It could be a gummed up or seized reverse-lockout system, or it could be a destroyed ignition switch. Honestly, if you're having problems I'd disassemble the thing and see what's what. I've had very few that were beyond reliable repair, but since that whole system is pretty complex, you really need to see all the parts to figure out what's actually wrong. Your problem may be something other than the lock cylinder itself, but now that's full of [useless] graphite...
